SolForge App Reviews

There was a time....

There was a time when I spent hours each night playing this addictive and fascinating game. I even abandoned hearthstone and magic for it. But the new client they just released ruined it all. The allure is gone.

Excellent strategy, generous F2P

SolForge offers immensely deep strategy that rewards skill and pushes you to think hard about your play every turn. On the surface the game may appear simple but it really isnt. If you look back over your own plays you will often realize a new combination that would have been even stronger. While difficult to compare, to me the strategy in SolForge has always been much deeper and has a higher skill cap than that of Hearthstone. SolForge is also Free-to-play but in a much better sense than most games on the App Store (waaaay better than Hearthstone). The strongest players can win their way to a powerful collection without spending any money. In fact if you are good enough, you do not need to spend money to compete at the absolute highest level. Give this game a week or two, it might grow on you!

Crashes With Black Screen

I downloaded the latest Solforge update but havent been able to play the game since. When I open it, I see the Solforge logo, then the Stone Blade animation, then a black screen. Nothing happens after that, and I cant click anywhere to get the game to respond. I have to have iOS quit the app after that. I am on an iPhone 6, running iOS 9.3.2. Please fix and I will update this review.

Awesome game!

Ever since this game concept was shared on Kickstarter I knew it would be awesome and the mental challenge the game presents is indeed real. It has a great free to play model, a well established metagame, and is great fun! If you love Hearthstone, I think the strategic aspects of this game are just WAY better!

Used to be fun.

Q: Why the extreme change? A: No frigging idea. Q: Which improvements do you like best? A: I will let you know as soon as I become aware of any "improvements". Q: Would you suggest this game to a friend? A: I did so just before the alleged improvements and am regretting it. Q: What improvements would you like to see in the future? A: Based on the current upgrades any suggestion that I or other players will make will be ignored. Q: Any further comments? A: Roll the game back until you have actually tested it on the platforms most likely to use it. Neither the iPhone 5 nor the iPad 2 are rare, yet many of the cards dont play correctly on the i5 and the game is nigh unplayable on the 2. Get rid of the pointless damned animations, its a card game, not a frigging RPG adventure. Pretty backgrounds and sparkling effects are stuff to get the Devs off. It doesnt mean a damned thing if your game doesnt work or excessive load times or crashes piss off your target audience. Freebies are pointless if your clients have already deleted the app.

Used to be amazing, now you should not play it if you havent already been playing for years

I can no longer in good conscience leave my 4/5 star review up. They took what used to be a cool game with fair micro transactions and ruined it, at this point it is downright exploitative. They removed rewards from AI battles which more or less kills the entire game for me. Ive put several hundred hours into this game but 99% was against AI because playing against real people takes too long (easily 10+ minutes a match even if your opponent doesnt waste time hoping you will quit) and even more importantly, as long as Im playing against AI they can only use the decks I have built from my collection. Online you run into people who have sunk insane amounts of time and money (while deck building strategies are the most important element, like all CCGs there is inherently a pay to win aspect as well given that the legendary cards have extremely powerful abilities) building decks and strategies that crush you repeatedly. And thats not even getting into the horrendous app interface. The old app was far from polished but it was responsive and generally worked well. Simply opening the overhauled version immediately reveals that it was created by an incompetent coder working with a designer who wanted everything to be flashy even at the cost of destroying usability. It is sluggish an unresponsive (I mainly play on my 6+) at best but trying to navigate is a nightmare. Selecting cards usually will either do nothing or bring up the ability info for a different unrelated card. Trying to use the deck builder makes me question the intelligence of anyone in QA who signed off on it! Trying to scroll through your cards generally takes a couple swipes to register and when it does work it does so with a 1-2 second delay before scrolling down ONE row. When you want to look through hundreds of cards this is unbearable. Then trying to scroll through the cards in the selected deck is even worse, the scrolling has the same unresponsive delay to it but has the added benefit that if you tap a card to scroll the list (which is the only place you can swipe to scroll) and it doesnt register the swipe (a frequent occurrence) it removes the card from the deck and you have to hunt back through to find it again. There are countless other issues but spending the time to point everything out is frankly more than it deserves. TL/DR: dont play this game, the core mechanics are still very fun but overall it is no longer worth your time.

Returning Players Disappointment

I am a returning player on mobile (iOS) and I have to say the new update has made this game completely unplayable. The utilization of controls is poor. Yeah they added some graphically pleasing additions, but they also sacrifice the simplicity of the original platform which I was fond of. Unfortunately I had to uninstall. :(

Good game, terrible UI

I used to play regularly back when it first came out. Decided to try the update, but the new interface is terrible.

Wow

Thanks for finally killing a great game. It looks like a low budget game from 2002. Graphics is ugly, low res, highly compressed. Effects are slow and painful to watch. Game is much slower and crashes often. Im so sorry I ever spent money on this game and talked my friends into playing it - it used to be so much fun. Deleting and not coming back.

Great game, horrible new UI

Havent played the game in awhile. This new interface is not very aesthetically pleasing. Some bugs with cards not showing info correctly either.

The worst update ever

It was a great game, really. Sometimes I even preferred playing it rather than Hearthstone. But it WAS a great game, after this new terrible update I have deleted the game. "Thank you" for crushing everything!

Bad mechanics good game

Great gameplay and stuff only problem is once you start a game after about 2 turns you get logged out of the app making very difficult to give a positive review. Not to mention that the game wont even load on the iPad anymore. Making it completely unplayable.

Gauntlet of sulgrim bugged on mobile

When selected at level two it brings you to a view of your deck instead of letting you target a creature you control

Usually 5* currently 1

The newest update ruined this game for me. It seems they tried to make the game more like hearthstone and in so doing took out every feature that made it playable on a phone. You can no longer play multiple games simultaneously instead you have to play one opponent at a time and wait for the other to make plays it slows my game play down to a crawl. I can only play for short stints at a time so know i can only play about one or two games a day down from ten or more.

Feels untested

This patch was released way too soon. The UI is horrible and requires lots of clicks to do anything and is very unintuitive and buggy. For example when you try to buy packs with silver the quantity text box resets to 1 pack if you try delete the 1 to enter a different number. This is an easy and obvious fix for an even half competent programer. Game crashes when playing other people. Lags badly on iPhone 6S. Was probably only a three star game prior to this patch.

Update "Broke" Game

This would be my 1st critical review... Not fun, but people need to know. Stoneblade recently decided to completely redo SolForges perfectly functional UI and replace it with something that resembles Injustice. Long story short, they COMPLETELY botched the game. Every aspect (even loading) of the game performs MUCH slower. They "tried" to make it pretty and ended up sacrificing performance. Deck management is a joke, unless youre willing to put up with a (still) unpatched bug. Login rewards to have diluted to the point where its no longer worth logging in anymore. Dont get me wrong, this game HAD potential! But it is sabotaged until Stone Blade decides to reverts back to their previous, functional UI. I used to login to this game every day, I really enjoyed it! Now, how can I possibly recommend this game to friends, when I myself no longer play?

Would highly recommend it

Great game with frequent updates. Drafting is a great alternative to costly Magic the Gathering drafting.

Great game

Solforge is a great game. Very generous F2P economics and the gameplay is awesome.

Great strategic trading card game

Free to play Ccg with unique gameplay and beautiful art.

Must play!

When I get tired of catching Pokemon, this is my go to game. Game has much depth and a completely unique resource system. A+
